Chiavari & Lavagna

Chiavari is a small town of approx. 28.000 inhabitants. The seafront was recently redesigned. Here you can take a swim in the sea, relax and have an „aperitivo“ (an alcoholic drink served with appetizers) in the evening. Or go shopping in the nice historical center with its arcades and shopping streets. Visit the impressive cathedral, the town hall, the Palace of Justice at the Piazza Mazzini or the Palazzo Torriglia with its gallery of pictures from Genoese artists from 1600-1900. Also worth a visit is the church San Giovanni Battista and the Villa Rocca with its palm garden from which you have a great view over the town.

Chiavaris neighbour Lavagna is a small town with approx. 12.500 inhabitants. The noble family Fieschi is closely related to Lavagna. In honor of the family the festivity „Torta dei Fieschi“ is celebrated every year on the 14th of August. The "Val Fontanabuona" in the backland of Lavagna is where the famous slate „Artesia“ is extracted. It is used as a building material as well as for craftsmanship. In the center of Lavagna you will find nice shopping streets under arcades with shops, boutiques and bars. Visit the Santo Stefano, Oratorio Nostra Signora del Carine and the Nostra Signora del Ponte churches or simply go for a walk across the seafront to the harbour.
