Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure & San Fruttuoso

The small, sophisticated coastal village of Portofino is a famous destination for the rich and famous. VIPs such as designers Dolce & Gabbana have summerhouses here. Luxury yachts anchor proudly in the bay of Portofino. Stroll across the "piazetta" or take a rest in a bar and enjoy the impressive view. If you like hiking you can walk the hiking paths in the nature park of Portofino high above the town. Here you have a fantastic view of the Ligurian Sea.

Close to Portofino you find the little village San Fruttuoso. This stunning villiage can only be reached by boat or foot. On a boat trip you can take the opportunity to see „Il Christo degli Abissi“ (“Christ of the abyss”), a submerged bronze statue of Jesus Christ. It was placed in the water in 1954 at approximately 17 metres depth, and stands approx. 2.5 metres tall. The sculptor, Duilio Marcante created this statue in memory of his friend Dario Gonzatti who lost his live on a diving trip. Also to see is a monastery in the bay of San Fruttuoso, built in the year 984 by Benedictine Monks. Since 1275 the Family Doria has been in posession of the monastery.
