Cinque Terre

UNESCO-World Heritage Site Cinque Terre

Everyone who comes to Liguria, wants to see the famous Cinque Terre. From west to east the five picturesque villages, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore line up. Together with Portovenere, the Cinque Terre received the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The best and most comfortable way to reach the villages is by local railway or boat.

For hundreds of years, winegrowing and fishing have been the main source of income for the inhabitants. The Cinque Terre are characterized by colorful little houses that are built into the rocks. These houses are extremely popular with photographers and some of their nicest work can be viewed in our gallery.

All villages of the Cinque Terre are connected by hiking trails. They lead you through slopes of wine and olive trees. The most famous hiking trail is the Via dell'Amore (path of love), a quite easy coastal path connecting Riomaggiore and Manarola. Traditionally lovers seal their love here with a metal padlock.
